New Amendments to the Labour Code in Slovakia

New Amendments to the Labour Code in Slovakia

Bratislava, 21 November 2018

New amendments to the Slovak Labour Code and related laws governing wages and wage allowances entered recently into force. The main amendments to the labour legislation are provided below:

  • Base salary posted on job offers. The employers are under the obligation to include in the job offers published online or on the print media the information about the base salary of the new employee. Additional bonuses and allowances that an employer may provide are not required to be published. Failure to comply with such obligation entails the risk of being fined by the Labour Office.
  • New wage allowances. There are significant increases in the wage allowances paid in case of holiday work (from original 50% up to 100% of the average hourly wage) and night work (from original 20% up to 40% of the minimum hourly wage). The new allowances for the Saturday work (50% of the minimum hourly wage) and Sunday work (100% of the minimum hourly wage) are a complete new development that will require the employers to increase their labour payments.
  • Compensatory leave for overtime work. The new rules provides for a legal option for employers to negotiate the delay of pay-off of the wage for overtime work until the time (the particular month) when the compensatory leave for overtime is actually taken.
